Description

Pinocchio is a fictional character and the protagonist of the children's novel "The Adventures of Pinocchio" (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi of Florence, Tuscany. He was carved by a woodcarver named Geppetto in a Tuscan village. Created as a wooden puppet but he dreams of becoming a real boy. He is notably characterized by his frequent tendency to lie, which causes his nose to grow.

A cultural icon, he is one of the most re-imagined characters in children's literature and his story has been adapted into many other media.

This beautiful pencil & ink Pinocchio illustration was illustrated by Silvia Ziche for the exhibition in Galleria-Libreria dell'Arco in Santa Margherita Ligure, organized together with the Association "Mosaico", Centre of Rehabilitation and Re-Socialization per psychic patients in Chiavari, in July 2007 and printed in the exhibition catalog (see additional images).

Yes, it's really amazing how many artists (painters, illustrators, cartoonists, sculptors, movie makers, writers, composers) have been inspired by Pinocchio and in how many different ways the character and the story have been featured... Not by chance it's a very interesting collection theme ;) Nice piece by Silvia!
