Description

With the new movie in theaters, I couldn't resist tackling Eddie Brock, better known as the monstrous lethal protector known as Venom. While I'm not cool with how he's being written in the comics these days, I can't deny how integral he has been in Spider-Man history. I remembered a splash in one of the issues of Venom: Dark Origins where Eddie has formed the trademark toothy, tongue-lashing visage, and though it'd be cool to do my own version of a profile. A monster in the dark, I thought what better way to convey the monster than with a full moon? Apologies if the scan doesn't show it off but I utilized cool grays and colorless blender to achieve a perfect blurred lunar surface. I also used a blend of both the colorless blender and white Prismacolor around the edges. I also used the blender for establishing the saliva under and around the tongue; the diluted color that resulted I then enhanced with a bit of shine via white ink pen. I used that same pen to the lit moisture on the tongue and the edges of the fangs on the side of the head facing the moon. For the costume, it was a combination of blanks and cool grays with white ink pens to convey minor details. For the bottom of the page, I rendered the symbiotic tendrils with black ink and copic black to create layers. The hellish symbolism of the tendrils was also my aim. The overall image stands at 11 x 17" on illustration paper. This is my one of my finest pieces to date and will be put up for auction on October 31st 2018.
