I finally did it. Given the premium and always rising prices for pages from classic team-up comics, I didn't think I'd be able to find an affordable board from the original Marvel Two-in-One run, but I managed to find one and add it to my collection. It's clear why this was a less costly page: it doesn't feature a colorful co-star (Franklin Richards, seen in close-up in the second panel, is the character with whom the Thing teams up in this issue).

But it does feature the Thing, as pencilled by Ron Wilson, whose name is synonymous with his portrayals of the rocky powerhouse of the Fantastic Four. There's also a delightful, Silver Age-quality to the alien cityscape through which the characters travel in the last three panels.

While there's some amazing artwork coming out today on modern boards, there's nothing quite like the vintage elements one finds on these older pieces of comic art. This one has a 1983 copyright stamp on the board, blueline editing marks, whiteout corrections, Zip-a-Tone shading in panels 5 and 6, hand-rendered lettering right on the board, almost imperceptible graphite marks from the original pencil art, a page-count note at the upper right indicating this is Page 10 of the printed comic (but Page 8 of the story), and even cuts to the board where it was removed from the press in printing production.
