DescriptionA Bruce McCorkindale re-creation of Curt Swan and George Klein's cover art to WORLD'S FINEST COMICS #148. Pen, brush and ink on 13 X 20" bristol board. I love how Swan and Klein manage to show the vignette of the three policemen and make it believable without cluttering things up with a background. Bruce did a great job here recapturing the cover.Bruce commented, "As you know, I'm more well-versed in Marvel than DC, but I've really come to appreciate the Swan/Klein collaboration. I love the Anderson smooth look, but there's something about George's technique that really makes it unique." I have a story about the original Swan and Klein cover. I sold most of my original comic book collection and left University to go to Graduate School in 1976, traveling by Greyhound Bus from Winnipeg to Indianapolis. I changed buses in Minneapolis, and while waiting i had some time on my hands. I took a walk from the terminal over to Shinder's which sold comics and saw the original art for this cover on the wall in Shinder's and almost bought it, but having just sold my collection to fund my education, I couldn't bite the bullet. The original came up for sale on eBay 10 years ago, perhaps and AGAIN I couldn't afford it because of huge mark-up on prices in the intervening decades. This recreation does a masterful job of bringing all this back to me. Social/Sharing |
