"Not Good With Words" by Shannon Bonatakis

Some pieces patiently wait for their forever home to find them. That’s the case with Shannon Bonatakis’ “Not Good With Words”. Shannon painted this gorgeous piece for her solo show “Before This All Fades Away” held at Sally Centigrade in August 2016. I remember loving the piece when I first saw it and routinely checking the gallery’s web store while the show was exhibiting expecting to see it sold. At that time I had another large purchase in the works so I didn’t feel comfortable committing to another large purchase so soon.

Skip ahead to early August. I was checking Haven Gallery’s website and saw one of Shannon’s pieces. On a whim I went to her website, checked her store and found that she was having a Summer Studio Sale trying to clear up the studio in preparation for her daughter she was expecting in September. Much to my surprise “Not Good With Words” was included. I contemplated sending her a message asking about time payments but decided once again I had too many irons in the fire and deleted the message.

The next day I received an email from her mailing list announcing the sale and that was the push I needed since I knew it might be my last chance to own this beautiful piece. I emailed her and she was excited to work it out so this piece could finally find the right home.

After 3 years I am thrilled to finally be giving this amazing piece the home that it deserves. Some pieces just speak to a person. This is one of those pieces for me. I can’t explain why I love this piece but I just feel a connection to her. There is a beautiful solemness to her as she looks for another way to express how she’s feeling. It’s a state I’m sure we’ve all felt at some point. Having something you want to say but just can’t get it out in the open. Just a truly stunning piece. I’ve always loved Shannon’s stunning style. There is always such beautiful meaning behind the work she creates. I couldn’t be happier to finally have one of her gorgeous paintings in my collection. Especially one that has always been one of my favorites by this amazing artist.
