For men of ...ahem... of a certain age Bob Larkin was one of those mystical artists who hovered over our heads. Like Frazetta, Boris, and a couple others, he did fantasy, magazine, and paperback covers... but never really did the comics I read.

For me he is a giant of fantasy art.

I'm also a real big Doc Savage fan, so it is a real kick to add this piece to my collection. Featuring Doc, his cousin Pat, and a Werewolf. But not just any Werewolf... Larkin painted the classic Lon Chaney Werewolf!!!! (And I'm a HUGE Universal Monsters fan!)

So this one clicks on all levels for me. It is Gouache on an 13x18 illustration board.

Painted in 2016 for an unpublished (?) paperback cover. Probably an adaption of "Brand of the Werewolf" which featured the first appearance of Patricia Savage.

*July 3, 2020 UPDATE* I FINALLY have the published book! Pictured below is the Summer 2017 Edition of the fine publication "The Bronze Gazette" (#79) I recommend this on-going magazine very highly to all Doc fans. Each issue is full of good stuff!

As it turns out Larkin was asked to base the look of Pat on the then wife of a big Doc fan... who later sent the art to auction where I purchased it.
