Here is a piece that I received yesterday as part of a bigger trade deal. It is a piece I had seen before in a private collecting and had always liked. I think it is one of the best pages from the book and I have owned 3 other pages in the past so I was well aware of how great these are. It is already framed and on my wall next to my desk where I will see it many times every day for many more years to come.

I think Hardboiled is a high point for Darrow's work other than perhaps his collaboration with Moebius on the City of Fire portfolio. It was also Darrow working with Frank Miller who was in his prime in this era. I remember seeing this oversized comic show at the comic shop circa 1990 and seeing Miller's name on it but art that blew me away inside was clearly not Miller. Crazy detail and dynamic images that still resonate with me today. It is not Miller's best writing but the synergy he had with Darrow elevated this to something it would not have been if either had not been paired on this project.
