Description

Continuing my string of Black Panther (BP) posts today with 2 adds, this from Mr. Wilfredo Torres. I picked this page up directly from Wilfredo at Heroes Con a while back, along with the variant cover he did for the same issue � check that one out here if so inclined: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1414087

I�ve been reading the Coates run from the start and remember thinking, on Wilfredo�s issues, that his more minimalist/less rendered style was kind of hit or miss page to page. Some I didn�t particularly care for, while others, like this one, really worked. He brings some nice figure work at times and I feel his clean style can have an emotive quality.

Here, the Panther is meeting with people throughout Wakanda as things in the country have been going awry. I like the flow down the page, and how you can clearly see T�Challa stand out as he is the only figure with some inks filled in. It�s capped off by a great crouching shot of the Panther, with those square-ish Kirby claws :) I also like how those 2 images at the bottom, though 2 different panels, almost feel like they�re one with the trees in the background sort of appearing to be the same tree. Nice optic effect!

I agree, that merging of the last two panels is very cool. And an outstanding image of the Black Panther with the one branch jutting out from above him.

Seconded, on that super half-splash effect. Panther... so hot right now (and forever, i.e. Wakanda forever!).

Here's another artist that I need to learn more about. I just came from your Moon Knight commission you had Wilfredo do, and had to post here, too. Love the less-is-more approach, and the small dashes of black used to pop T'Challa's out of the panels... then his image darkens in that middle tier before exploding into that glorious half-splash. Really cool page, K. I'll check out more of Wilfredo's work - thank you!

Thanks, man! I was super impressed with the execution of this piece, for many of the reasons you note. Wilfredo's got a GREAT graphic design sense, and as far as illustration, no line is wasted. And yes! Check his stuff out!
