Description

The opportunity to commission this watercolour came when I offered to buy one of Mike's Red Sonja pencil-and-ink covers from his representative and it was withdrawn from unforseeeably withdrawn from sale. Predicting my disappointment, Mike generously offered to make a new full-length watercolour for me. I sent a short note thanking him and mentioning: 'I'm not twelve-years-old so I am not looking for the usual depiction of boobs struggling against gravity'.

I was expecting a Sonja in modern clothing since most of Mike's run of covers were for stories when Sonja was transported to modern times. It was a pleasant surprise to receive a classic adventurer that could blend into any tale of Sherwood Forest or Queen Boudicea.

The costume is unusual for Sonja but similar to one that Mike made for CAF member Adam Tomlin around the same time that mine was painted (Go check Mr Tomlin's out on CAF. It is a stunner!).
