Masters of The Universe

I've been a MOTU fan since I first saw that awesome Filmation series and thoroughly enjoyed the 2002 reboot. So when this commission came across my desk, I admit I was at first hesitant. Took me five months to figure something out in between other jobs, but then after watching a MOTU documentary I realized that the answer was staring at me right in the face. The old toy packaging always had those incredible battle shots, especially the Castle Grayskull packaging. Now of course the obsession of Skeletor's had to be included in this shot, but remembering those images and The Art of He-Man HC was very helpful. On 11 x 14" Canson, I used every trick in the book - plus acrylics in certain spots - to achieve this fantastic war sequence. I even snuck in cameos where you can find them of additional characters. To get that cinematic feel, I blackened the top and bottom of this piece to frame the central image. I'm extremely proud of this piece because it pushed me to my limits and had me think outside the box. If anyone would like a MOTU commission, please contact me here or on Facebook.
