Description
The 1990s featured one Venom miniseries after another, and tonight I am posting the cover and an interior splash to Venom: The Hunger issue #4.

As Venom, Eddie has often said he would eat someone's brains, but this was always a joke to him. In this story, Eddie finds that the symbiote does indeed have a craving for brains and it drives him to actually consume the brains of an adversary. Horrified, Eddie doesn't know what to do and the symbiote leaves him in order to fulfill it's hunger.

That's one mother effing LARGE Venom! When the symbiote posessed Eddie, I always took it as the symbiote doing the talking/thinking. So I always took it as the symbiote having a hunger for brain. Never for one second did it ever occur to me that it was Eddie thinking/saying it, much less that it was ever being said in jest. Are you saying that "Eddie always joking about wanting brains" was established in this series? I've never read it before!

Venom often proclaimed that he was about to eat Spidey's brains (as well as other organs) in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man.  In fact, on a page from ASM 374 that I posted a couple years back, Venom speaks of dining on Spidey's liver "with a nice chianti."  Whether he was joking or not, I always figured it was Eddie saying it, though it would figure that the symbiote was somehow involved.  And, in Venom: The Hunger #1, these "organ-eating threats" made more sense when the symbiote explains to Eddie that there is a chemical in the brain that it needs to feed upon, one that Eddie's own mind no longer produces and therefore it needs to get sustenance elsewhere.

There really were a lot of Venom renditions in the '90s - here's an example of just going all in, extreme, with the largeness, the teeth, the brain-eating...all that!  Fun piece from the time, Paul.  Congrats!
