DescriptionFirst, let me apologize in advance for the pain I am about to inflict on all of you. Especially if you are the current or former owner of any of these pieces. I figured since I have a near complete set of Mitch’s old mail order catalogs, it might be “fun” (if not masochistic) to take a stroll down memory lane. But take heart. For even though most (if not all) of these posts will be almost unbearable and cringe worthy to many of you, just remember that 20-30 years from now, these will be the “good old days” to some new collector just starting out.
What is very interesting to note here is that during this 9-year span of catalogs (1984-1993), there is nothing here that is priced over (or anywhere near) $1000. Actually (with the exception of the Killing Joke page), nothing even breaks the $500 range. Absolutely incredible for pieces that could all easily be five figures (or more) today! By the way, I’ve got dozens and dozens of these. So I’ll be posting them in chunks from time to time (to prolong the torture). Social/Sharing |

The pain! It burns! That is an awesome Arapo Batman cover...for $175. I remember being at SDCC in the 90s and seeing Mcafarlane Spidey pages for a few hundred bucks. I wasn't collecting art yet, and felt it was too expensive. Too expensive...

I remember the first year Todd was selling his AMS and MT covers at SD. There was a long line of people because he was selling them for $300 each and was limiting them to one per customer. I remember chuckling at all the people standing in line to buy one. But I guess they all got the last laugh. Still not as funny as the first time I met Tood a couple of years before. He was talking to a friend of mine who introduced him as the artist on Infinity Inc. Not being a DC fan (much less an Infinity Inc fan), I really didn't care who he was. There was another artist at the show I wanted to get a sketch from, so since Todd was an artist, I asked him if he had a blank page I could have to get a sketch from this other artist. I don't think I even said hello or asked him how he was. Just wanted to know if he had a blank piece of paper. LOL
