Description
When Brubaker and Phillips resumed work on their outstanding Criminal series in 2015 with the release of the first Criminal Special Edition, I was delighted. And that one shot comic focused on Teeg Lawless, my favorite character in the Criminal universe. The story features a comic within a comic, as only Brubaker and Phillips can do, and it depicts Teeg at his most brutal; I just love this story.

I contacted Mark at Splash Page Comic Art to grab my favorite page from the book, but was crestfallen to hear that Phillips created all the interior art digitally, so no physical pages existed. That page continued to haunt me, so inspired by something I heard on Felix's superb podcast, I recently asked Mark to request that Phillips ink over bluelines from that page on 11 1/2 x 16 1/2" bristol board and he agreed. I'm not sure how to label this one, as it's the only physical manifestation of a published interior page from this book, it's a commission, and it's a recreation in a sense, but in any case, it really scratched the itch for me! Thanks for taking a look!

That's a very clever way to get a page from digital only art. And what a great character page. If that's day 4, day 5 must look like a Quentin Tarantino torture scene. This is a very cool page. Congrats!

Beauty! Haven't read these stories yet but I'll be getting them in the upcoming deluxe vol. 3. Great idea, Mike. Glad to see more and more Phillips art on CAF. This duo is already legendary.

I was about to write, how did you get this i thought all the art was digital???, glad I read your description. That was a cool idea and it turned out great. These to oversized Special editions Criminal issues are some of my favorites. Great page too.

Wow! Very nice! Coincidentally, I also asked Jacob Phillips (not Sean Phillips) to ink a digital page from That Texas Blood, A Brother's Conscience, with a dash of red for blood!
