Description

Harlan Ellison was a writer known for his outspoken personality. He published more than 1,700 short stories, novellas, screenplays, comic book scripts, television scrips, essays, reviews, and criticisms. He wrote, what is considered the best “Star Trek” episode of all time, "The City on the Edge of Forever" which featured Joan Collins as the guest heroine. His best known writings include, “A Boy and His Dog,” "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream,” “Demon with a Glass Hand,” “The Glass Teat,” and “Crazy as a Soup Sandwich.” In addition, the movie “The Terminator” is loosely based on one of his early screenplays. Outside of writing, Ellison had an amazing life which included friendships with many well-known individuals, like actor Robin Williams, and author Neil Gaiman. In 1965, Ellison marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in Selma, Alabama. Later he got a job at Disney Studios, but was fired by Walt Disney’s brother after only working one day. …So this illustration was with him in mind. One of the ten most reprinted stories in the English language is Harlan Ellison’s "'Repent, Harlequin!' Said the Ticktockman" about nonconformity in a repressive, authoritarian future. For this mock cover, I used DC comics’ Harley Quinn (as rendered by Terry and Rachel Dodson) and three time-themed villains to stand-in for the Ticktockman. Enjoy!
