Love it!  Pope referencing Micheluzzi honoring Breccia!  Although I am not sure I see a lot of direct influence from Breccia in the art of Pope, indirectly through artists like Munoz who I imagine must have influenced Pope we get that connection.  Pope's homages to European greats like Crepax, Micheluzzi and others are among my favorite of his works.

HI homages are great, espeically the Crepax ones. I have talked to Paul a bunch about his Euro influences and Micheluzzi is at the top of them. You can see it in the brush work for sure. Escapo's face is based on Rosco Stanton from Micheluzzi's Shanghi. I found the panel this study is based on I'll add it to the post.
