The question is at what point is making an offer pointless? When PV is 3x FMV? 4x? Sometimes PV is so high that no offer will matter.
For me - that point doesn't exist. ha ha. maybe there is a point in terms of time line, but when it comes to selling - we can't take art with us. so we either die with it, or we pass it on to a family member that cares as much (which in most cases is not the case) or we sell it. maybe others here can comment on this idea so we can learn from each other.
I don't think it's pointless. If someone approaches me with an offer well over FMV on a piece that I own, I can at least identify and presume that this piece might hold some importance to them and that they really love it.
It'll def. put them at the top of the list if I ever need to let that respective piece go.
Wow, I LOVE this personal flow chart! I've always wanted one since I was a kid and my great grandmother's twin sister's aunt's cousin's brother-in-law's stepmom's great grandson bought me a flow chart at the corner store!

That would be great, I LOVE NFTs! They're so tangible andfeel great when you hold them in your hands! But as an NFT expert, I can tell you that you don't need to speak to Dino about it. Whoever turns the scan into an NFT first is the owner of the NFT, so just get the NFT done quickly before Dino has a chance to, and then if you ever decide to sell it, please let me know so I can make you a HUGE offer!

You're correct, I'm all about the money, but only in terms of giving YOU huge sums of it so I can acquire as many rare and desireable grails as possible, so I can keep them in my permanent collection forever. I promise, you have my word, I would NEVER sell this flow chart or an NFT of it if you decide to sell to me. The ONLY reason I would ever even consider selling them, is if someone offered to buy them from me at a profit. But other than that, NOTHING could ever make me let go of them because I love them SO much!
All this LOVE talk is just a negotiating ploy. You're all just playing hard to get. We'd be talking about "flip of the day" once that token is in your cryptowallet. Doge to the moon!
NO! I PROMISE you I truly LOVE this flow chart and would keep it FOREVER. Remember, my great grandmother's twin sister's aunt's cousin's brother-in-law's stepmom's great grandson bought me a flow chart at the corner store when I was a kid, and it even came shrinkwrapped with an NFT back then, which is why I also love NFTs and would love to get one of this flow chart from Dino. I LOVE this hobby too much to lie about my true motives, so believe me!

For sure , ive lost dozens of superb pieces , all for the same reason : low offers...if i could time traveling in time , lots of mcfarlane , larsen , bagley , zeck...😂
But many people like me dont have high salary and always try to make the real deal (usually not 😂)
If you fall in love with a piece make a high offer and be happy
That was a fantastic discussion! Thank you for pointing it out. As I'm learning, it's not always easy to determine fair market value. Sometimes the pieces are rare and never come up for sale, sometimes you have a ridiculously hot market (wink wink) where prices change overnight. I find bedside manner matters as much as hitting proper values, and sometimes more. Showing appreciation for the discussion, remembering manners, and trying to be nice, tends to encourage others to show some grace, in my experience and opinion. My background was comics and toys, so fair market value may elude me, since this is not yet my area of expertise, so I try to stay open-minded and don't argue/cajole. Explaining your thinking is fine, but try not to push.

Ha ha ha! Dino, I'd sooner do it in an actual ring, either Boxing or MMA, Duke's choice, 'cuz I don't have any art left to sell! I wish the show had come to fruition a few years ago, BEFORE I decided I was tired of being at the mercy of buyers "waiting for the upcoming auction before I make a buying decision" and began shipping off all my inventory to auctions and selling it all that way!
I have less than 20 pieces remaining and they're the same ones I had at the last CAF CON (yes, I will refer to it that way because it's short, sweet and makes complete sense!) in November, so I can't even set up a booth at the CAF CON later this month!
This is a fairly meaningless image and discussion, as some people are cheapskates and would not, and do not ever, offer fmv anyway. Some peoples offers are so risibly low as to beggar belief. Sadly, some of the cheapest people are also the richest. Theres irony there. Lol. My favorite one, is someone, on this site, who had an arguement with me about value, over a sum of about a 100 pounds, who had already spent about 60,000 that year on art. You know who you are, you cheapskate.

Not sure this proves the british are smarter than those of us here this side of the pond - but I had to look up the word (you know which one!)
I have had this discussion with many in the past. If a piece is not for sale and you are going to try and pry it out of someone else's collection, be prepared to pay at least 50% over the top of fmv and probably more likely multiples of fmv. It is one thing if the item is listed for sale but quite another trying to free something up that the current owner loves and is not looking at parting with.
I always considered the main problem with selling is the question, what can I get thats equal to, or better, with the money? I have only sold or traded to help get other artwork. FMV is pretty meaningless. Its about what that particular piece of artwork means to the person. My favorite piece of artwork is probably worth a couple of hundred dollars on the open market but its priceless to me....until a billionaaire approaches, with a life changing cheque, so I can drown my sorrow at its loss, relaxing on a tropical idyll. We all have our price, except saints, and there are not many of them in the world. Lol.
Your personal value to me is much higher than market value.
What I usually get is someone comparing the piece they want to buy from me with a lesser piece from the same artist, all the while thinking I cannot see any reasonable difference in value. Imagine someone saying, "I want to buy your McFarlane Spidey cover, but I want to pay what his Infinity Inc cover just sold for."
I get the lowball BS. Who does not like a good deal? However, c'mon, we didn't just start buying artwork yesterday and neither did you.
Sadly, there are people who go well below lowball. Regarding your Mc Farlane comparison, they would offer you what one of his kindergarden pieces, or three second, con doodles, is worth. These people are shameless opportunists.
I noticed this chart is the only piece of art on CAF by Dino Mauricio. Is it also a "birth" page?

I am SO late to the party, but I do want to bring in something known as the "Endowment Effect" or "divestiture aversion". It loosely explains that people assign a significantly higher value to something they own over something of equal value they don't own. In any collectibles environment where we assign value to something based our own preference (I.e. favorite character, artist, issue, etc.), a "fair"value can get murky. Especially when something is purchased at a FMV 10+ years ago and now must try to determine a fair value in the current market. Great and fun topic!
