DescriptionOften described as the best artist most do not know, David Wright (not my favorite New York Mets player of the same name!) certainly has not received his due. A British illustrator who began with pinup work during World War II. His incredible talent created the Carol Day strip for The Daily Mail. Beginning with the strip's creation in September 1956 and continuing until his untimely death in May 1967. Wright evolved the title character throughout this eventful period in time. Keeping Carol relevant during the popular culture of the Sixties. This strip (#1452) was published on Wednesday, May 17, 1961. Part of the storyline "Shadow of Suspicion". My friend (and Carol Day expert) Roger Clark shared with me the character Sue was patterned after Maggie Wadley, a girlfriend of David Wright's son Nicky, who went on to a brilliant career as a screen writer for the BBC. Just a beautiful piece of artwork I am thrilled to have in my collection. Learn much more about David Wright and Carol Day at: www.carol-day.com UPDATE: This strip was featured on page 20 of the astounding David Wright's Carol Day: Lance Hallman book produced by Slingsby Bros. Ink! in 2022. Social/Sharing |

That was from a scan in a database. Hope that the original printed paper was nicer Will, but I honestly do not know!

Will- I located a tear sheet of the printed strip and added that image to this listing. Glad to report it was not printed as poorly as the database scan suggested!
