Bert Blum and Customer, Rick Durell, In Bert's Inner and Upper Sanctum of Cherokee Book Shop

What impressed and frustrated me most about Cherokee's inventory were a number of assembled and painted custom models of super-heroes, including models of Starman and many other somewhat obscure Golden Age characters. At that time you would never see any sculptures, toys, or other representations of such characters, and I thought that Bert's models, whoever made them, were just great. Unfortunately, they were almost all broken in some way,. They also weren't cheap, and I didn't think I would be able to repair them -- I was only 9 or 10 years old when I first saw them. So I settled for buying comics, some of which [especialyl issues of Adventure Comics in the early 300s] I really loved.
