This page sets the scene for the story as we see our narrator beginning his tale around a homeless camp fire by a river bank outside of Gotham. The story is told as an urban legend style campfire story about a time that Batman faced off with Solomon Grundy. What the last page of the story reveals is that Solomon Grundy is also at that camp fire keeping warm and listening as his story is told.

"Splash" is a story that was commissioned by Archie Goodwin in the 1990s to be published in Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight. It was never published in the '90s and sat around in the DC offices until 2010 when it was finally released in "Batman: Hidden Treasures."

Every page in this story is a full page splash with the text in the side margin. Beautiful book plate style splashes by Bernie Wrightson on large, oversized pages.
