DescriptionCover dated August 2002.I’ve mentioned in other posts how much I loved Robert Rodi’s Codename: Knockout series for Vertigo in the early 2000s. When I saw this cover come up for auction recently, my heart jumped. I’ve long wanted a page by Campbell, but a shot at the only cover he did for one of my favorite series seemed too good to be true. In all of the online auctions that I’ve bid on over the past 24 years, I don’t think I ever felt my heart pound as strongly in nervous anticipation as it did during the final seconds of this one. And when I found out I won? Something of a small state of shock. This is a personal grail piece. I should also probably visit a cardiologist. Anyway, Vertigo did two covers for this issue - a Jim Lee cover featuring the two main stars of the series, Angela St. Grace and Go-Go Fiasco, and then this cover by Campbell featuring their British counterparts, Divinita Beastly and Ravish Kinkimanboi. The interior art on this issue was by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. If you’ve never read this series, it’s worth tracking down. Social/Sharing |

J Scott Campbell covers are great from this era when he exploded onto the scene! They often had this fun and candy coated vibe to them!

Candy coated vibe - I think that's the best description of JSC's work from that time that I've ever heard.

Very nice! Always cool seeing these older JSC covers before his style completely moved to what it is now. Congrats!

I really enjoy this era of JSC's art, it's got so much personality in the expressions, and he weaves a great composition, and accentuates the female curves with the stars and Union Jack. This is one of those pieces that looks so much more interesting in it's original form than the final colored version!
