Four Peanuts Baseball Dailies from the same sequence, 1958

These four originals are from one of the most famous of all of Charles Schulz' baseball sequences. I believe that this was the first time that all six dailies in one week were used to tell a true narrative, as opposed to being semi-independent gags that just appeared one after another. In any event, these four strips contain the most important story elements of the 6 that appeared during one week in 1958 (June 9, 10, 12, and 14). One of the two strips that I am missing has no importance for the story, and the other, where Charlie Brown drops the ball, is not indispensible -- we obviously can see that he dropped the ball between the 3rd and 4th of strips in this group. These particular strips were also used, almost exactly as they appear here, for a sequence in the second Peanuts animated television special, "Charlie Brown's All-Stars," which came out between the Christmas and Halloween specials. The gag from the top strip, however was replaced by a very similar gag from a 1962 daily, in which Lucy first shows her encouragement for Charlie Brown as a pitcher and then yells from outfield "Try to Get One Over the Plate, You Blockhead." That original from 1962 does exist -- it was sold about a decade ago at auction, but I prefer this one, which was the very first time Lucy called Charlie Brown a Blockhead!
