DescriptionA new commission for All-Star August - and not part of my Continuation Project, partly because it's not based on the cover of a comic which Roy Thomas had anything to do with the writing of, but mostly because there's no realistic chance that I will ever get to 1944 (I'd need to do something like another 250+ issues, and honestly that's not going to happen).However, I was watching "The Longest Day" a couple of months back, and it occurred to me that it wouldn't have been impossible for DC to have put out a special "Tales Of The All-Star Squadron" issue in June 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of D-Day - so I thought I'd have artist Bambos Georgiou adapt the cover of Eclipse Comics' "The Airfighters Meet Sgt Strike" (original art by Tom Lyle) to tell the story of how Blackhawk and Captain X Of The RAF teamed up with Commander Steel and French Resistance heroine Mlle Marie to stop Baron Blitzkrieg using a Nazi secret weapon - radio-guided V1s - to sabotage the Normandy landings. I can even see the last page in my mind - as the two aviators take to the skies, Hank Heywood and Mlle Marie greet the first American soldier to make it off Omaha Beach --- a US Army sergeant called Frank Rock. (I'm not yet sure in my own mind whether Tales Of The All-Star Squadron is a one-shot, a mini-series, or the first issue of an entirely new comic. Watch this space.) Social/Sharing |

Strike! was one of my favorites and the backstory of Sgt. Strike kept my interest throughout.

Excellent cover homage! I have alwasy been a big fan of this Air-Fighters meet Sgt Strike special. Great idea to use it for the All-Star Squadron!
