DescriptionDoomsday Cat, Doomsday Cat, Peters got a Doomsday Cat. Ahem...While many people want punch ups and spectacular stuff, when I originally read Watchmen, I wanted a good page with Adrian's cat! I could have bought some pages from the original series. I had the money but never bothered. I finally realized why. There was no cat action, or inaction in them. Who cares about a crazed lunatic being blown to pieces or a guy being disassembled only to remake himself? Who knew humans were clocks in disguise? Now, the cat ad for the original series showed up recently but no matter how hard I jingled my pockets I just could not seem to find 70,000 plus spare change there. Now, if Gary Frank or his 'sterling' art representatives ever read this, I would love to buy the cat cover he did for Issue 8. There is no better collection for it to fit into. Forget The Comedian, Manhattan, Mr Hurm, Batman Lite, The not so silky lady and all the others. The cat may be Moore and Gibbons finest creation. Gary's wonderful art showed there is Watchmen life after Gibbons.Social/Sharing |

Looks like we got a Tiger King in the making with so much fascination over the big cat. Gary Frank's artwork in this series is just miles beyond what was expected. The classic nine panel grid yielded nine perfect illustrations. The art on this page with Firestorm and Superman is superb as the illustrations function as a whole to tell a story.

Not too many artists could make 9 panels look quite that good. Frank can pack a lot of excellent detail into a small space, but not make it feel crowded. And the cat looks...unconcerned. A happy kitty. Nice score. Congrats!
