DescriptionCorrecting an egregious omission - I commissioned and received this from Mirko back in December 2020 but apparently forgot to add it to my gallery. I only realized this because I saw today that he's signed with Black Diamond and I wanted that "I knew him when..." moment :)Anyway as you can see from this piece, he has a really unique voice in the space with his intense hatch-work and color choices (all using colored ink pens). Its really amazing watching him do this work with nary a ruler in sight. The color blends are all achieved by weaving in hatching of different colors and tones (click and zoom in!). It's really mind-boggling. I hope Mirko gets some traction in the industry and starts blowing up (selfishly because I own his work but also because we could always use some fresh new approaches to the medium). Social/Sharing |

Thanks, Michael! You should definitely check his stuff out on social media - some very cool examples of this style.

I think of Spidey 2099 as a more of being an "in the shadows" kind of character with how much shadows and black were in his costume during the original Leonardi run, but this is a nice change of pace. A hopeful kind of image with that strong lighting effect, and the color hatching is a uniquely cool technique. Very cool! Congrats, Eranga!

Thanks man! And absolutely right that he's usually portrayed at night with only city lighting - more predatory that heroic. One of the layouts he did for me did evoke that but I gravitated to this one because if it's uniqueness.

As Into Spider-Verse showed, there are no limits to these characters and how they are portrayed. This has a great joy in the pose as he leaps into the void without fear. Miguel is given these colors that celebrate his powers even as he stretches and strains to take human anatomy beyond what we define.

I almost envision this as the end of a long night. Thought bubble: "what the hell are you still doing outside, Miguel?!"

I want to say he puts the work in...from initial sketch to final piece he worked on and off on it for a week maybe?

Wowow, dude just crosshatched the whole dawn/dusk sky... fantastic. Spidey 2099 rendered so well against that backdrop!

Yeah man...it's really impeccable cross-hatching which can be challenging just focusing on black and white. To also mix in color theory and blending while hatching at the same time is a rare skill IMO.

Part of the problem is I didn't post it till like 11 months after I got it :)
I've got 2 more pieces coming from him as penance for that injustice...hope you got one too, man!

This is definitely one you have to click and zoom. The tones and textures he gets with his hatching are incredible!
