Description

Daisybelle (the final "e" seems to be missing from the paste-up title in this example) was a topper strip for Gene Byrnes' long-running "Reg'lar Fellers" strip. Maybe Byrnes wanted something with more appeal to girl readers. "Reg'lar Fellers" ran from 1917-1949, but I've only seen examples of Daisybelle from the 1930s. At any rate, I find it a charming strip -- the "basket on the doorstep" trope (as well as the punch line reveal, butchers delivering door-to-door) is a period piece in itself. The strip is dated 2-20, the copyright year is 1938.
