Kohler, Chris - Recreation of Neal Adams' Green Lantern #76 Cover Art

For this recreation I asked Chris to use the printed version of the cover for positioning, and use the Heritage scan of the actual original art for inking reference since it shows the linework much better. Green Arrow is slightly smaller in the printed version, for more clearance between him and Green Lantern's finger.

Chris does light-box everything, but he just does light outline pencils so that everything's properly placed. Then he inks everything by eye (no longer with the light-box), while referring to the printed original.

Chris originally did recreations for his own enjoyment and only started selling them when people asked him about pieces he had already completed. He now does some commissions of recreations. It has never been his main form of employment, but something he does on the side.

In addition to drawing recreations he also BUYS recreations from other artists who do the same thing and has them framed on his wall. Why would he do this? Because recreating others' artwork is a craft which takes skill and he admires this skill in the work that others have done in the same arena.

Chris is also very careful about attributing the original work to the original artist in the margin of every piece he recreates. He would never sell a recreation as "original" art but ALWAYS as a "recreation."
