DescriptionTales of the Green Beret (1965-1969) was adapted into a comic strip from the 1965 novel The Green Berets by Robin Moore. Moore's story was published at a time when public opinion about the Vietnam War was still positive and real-life Green Berets were being celebrated in the media. The strip's writing was credited to Robin Moore himself, although it was ghostwritten by Jerry Capp. After two years as the artist, Joe Kubert decided to leave the strip, which was eventually adapted for comic book format, but by that time public opinion about the war no longer supported the continuation of the story.Artwork measures 15.25" wide x 4.5" tall and is pen and ink on Bristol board. The back of the board is stamped by the engraving department of the Chicago Tribune "1966 Dec 14 PM 3 47". Signed by Joe Kubert in the first panel. Purchased from the Joe Kubert Estate. A terrific establishment shot of three characters against the evening sky. Beautiful portraits in the middle panel and a couple of classic Joe Kubert faces in the last one. (Just so you know Raoul took the wine to frame the bridge guard as being intoxicated during it's collapse.) Social/Sharing |

Very nice strip ! Congrats !
I totally agree Jean André!
Great story telling skills throughout to convey the emotional loss of the village during the bridge collapse.
And this strip although part of the Green Beret series does not have a military feel. Which makes it nice within my group of Kubert examples.

Really nice looking art, but then what else would we expect from Kubert?

Wonderful! Instantly identifyable as Kubert's rich style. I've been trying to find a nice rendering such as this!
