Description

The idea for this bizarre series of illustrations comes from the amazing Donald Duck homage Alberto drew for me to celebrate the 85th birthday of the character, D-Zilla, where our Donald got someway blended with Godzilla, a fictional monster, or kaiju, originating from a series of Japanese films.

So here's the third piece of a series where Alberto will put in the blender Donald Duck and fictional characters from Japan, D-Jimbo.

The reference character is Usagi Yojimbo, created by Stan Sakai, protagonist of a comic book series set primarily at the beginning of the Edo period of Japanese history and featuring anthropomorphic animals replacing humans. The main character is a rabbit rōnin, Miyamoto Usagi, whom Sakai based partially on the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Usagi wanders the land on a musha shugyō (warrior's pilgrimage), occasionally selling his services as a bodyguard.

Donald as a ronin in Lavoradori's illustration is effing badass, don't you think?

This is a sweeping image with the wind and leaves which swirl as angrily as Donald's temper which often explodes. The watercolors are also quite beautiful showing the color pallete of mother nature.
