Description

I always enjoyed the company of Bruce Hamilton and his stories. He was a font of knowledge, the latest gossip and a promoter of Disneyana along with his conspirator Russ Cochran. In March of 1997 the Bruce Hamilton company produced a facsimile of Coo-Coo #1 (200 copies) as faithful to the 32-pqge original as possible. According to Bruce: "Shortly after joining the Eye-Opener (men's magazine) staff in 1929, Carl Barks collaborated with then editor Ed Summer to produce Coo-Coo #1, a full magazine size, less risque one-shot to test newsstand potential for such a book. There never was a second issue and the first must have been distributed in an extremely small quantity, as there is only one known copy in existence today." In actuality at least three copies exist. Bruce's copy used to make the reproductions was badly damaged while doing so. Another fair condition copy was offered on E-Bay several years ago and I seem to remember the price was $14,000. My copy in near perfect condition is shown here. I can not find my facsimile copy, but maybe I never bought it as I owned the real deal.
