DescriptionTalk about nostalgia. Growing up, I traced this image of Spider-Man as a 13-year old, and I still have the drawing up to now (yes, the drawing is 37 years old!)! I then saw this in SDCC 2014 in Bechara's booth, told him the whole story about my drawing, and he told me I should buy it, that this piece was meant for me. But I couldn't pull the trigger as I wasn't willing to pay his asking price at that time. Bechara eventually sold it.Then in SDCC 2016, Bechara got it back as the guy who bought it traded it back to him, and this time around, it was 30% more expensive (yes, we all know how this feels!). Long story short, I took the plunge. When nostalgia hits, it really hits. And this is as nostalgic as it gets for me. Primo Byrne with primo Austin, and featuring two of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe. Thanks Bechara! Social/Sharing |

Awesome artwork and story! Thanks for sharing. This is what comic art collecting should be about... good times and great memories. You can never go wrong with a Byrne/Austin piece, so kudos to you on making the right call!

That would have made a great Marvel Team Up cover. Congrats on picking it up.

I shudder to think what you had to pay to get this. Did you consider trying to distract the seller and swap your version? Maybe he would not have noticed the switch.

Definitely nowhere near as much as the nose-bleed prices of today!

A classic comic in the 80's for being the first to have that glossy paper and rich colors for the interiors. Definitely left an impression on anyone who saw how glorious it was presented.

Fantastic and memorable pinup! Howw wonderful for you now that even at 30% above the price from 2 years earlier, your cost was pocket change compared to what it would cost you today. Congrats on finally pulling the trigger on it!

Great story behind this for you. Congratulations on getting and thank you for sharing the picture of you tracing. We all did that and it is great you still have yours. This piece will never mean more to anyone else than it does to you and so it has found the right home.

Hey "Jay", nice to see you post this after so many years. I remember in 2012 when Becahara acquired this thinking iot would look good in my Byrne collection, but couldnt pull the trigger either. My loss is your gain, and what a great piece it is.

So amazing & so memorable, but when I look at that perfectly slick & perfectly Austin Silver Surfer it makes me wish he inked the Surfer 1-shot, I'll get over it—a big Power Cosmic congrats!!

Was this one published first in the Marvel Team-Up portfolio?...or first in MarvelmFanfare? ( Doesn't matter... it's amazing either way)

Phenomenal piece. Love Byrne's layout and pencils on this. And Austin's inks really make the art sing!

Nostalgia's a BEAR, ain't it?! And paired with a really good looking piece?! As you say, fuhggedaboudit! Love the depth and sense of movement, and it's always cool seeing this unlikely pair paired up! Outstanding stuff, Jay. Congrats!

In hindsight I probably should have just hung on to this one. I still remember seeing it for the first time in Fanfare. And then almost having a heart attack when I saw it for sale in San Diego in the early 90's. I loved Spidey, loved Surfer, and loved Byrne. I told myself that even though it was folded in half, it was still on one board and the fold didn't really bother me. But when I sold it ten years later, I basically used the fold to talk myself into letting it go. Plus, the person who bought it from me told me he had been looking for this piece forever. Anyway, at least I made a new friend out of it. Although I probably would have just kept it if I knew he was going to flip it later on. LOL
