DescriptionVan Buren's style was essentially realistic, but he excelled at humorous caricatures and slapstick comedy. The highlight for me in this one is the panel 7, with the passed-out butler and maid and concert in the b.g. I also like how the story is told both in pictures and symbols: a battle between musical notes and "zzz"s.* Bathless Groggins makes a cameo in the last panel. And written of course, by Elliot "Al Capp's Brother" Caplin. This was the first Sunday I ever bought -- back in 2002, when early Abbie an' Slats were to be found in abundance, roaming ebay in large herds...(*Looks like a mistaken apostrophe was whited out in that panel, correcting "it's" to "its"!)
