Freckles and His Friends strip (September 26, 1946)

Freckles and his friends were once superstar teen characters on the fame level of Archie and Jughead, but time has left them behind. These characters are Freckles' best friend Lard and Lard's girlfriend Hilda, who seem similar to Jughead and Veronica Lodge respectively. They often double-dated with Freckles and his blonde girlfriend June.

Interesting that "Isolationist" had apparently become a term of scorn after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Although Merrill Blosser originated the strip, by 1946, he only drew the Sunday edition, leaving the dailies to his assistant Henry Formhals.
