Description
Court of Owls was and is the defining Batman story of a generation, so to be able to now add a second page from this story to my collection is a huge. This page is from a key sequence in the story as Batman learns how the Court of Owls have been operating undetected for so long as he visits various buildings that contained hidden floors used as base of operations over the past 150 years. He learns just how far back the Court of Owls had been influencing and shaping Gotham’s history.

There really is so much to love here that makes it a perfect page for me. I tend to gravitate towards pages with a splashy image paired with some great storytelling beats/elements. Here we have a memorable top panel (which was also used on a Graphitti Designs T-shirt) as Batman soars from building to building, then the detailed images of two of the hidden rooms.

I also love that this story was drawn & inked on separate boards (I know blasphemy), but to be able to have and appreciate Greg’s pencils really is a treat. Plus the pencil page is a published page in its own right as it was included as part of the Batman Unwrapped: Court of Owls collected edition, which is basically the darkened pencil pages with all of the word balloons. So, yeah, might be for everyone but I love being able to study the boards up close and to be able to fully appreciate the collaborative nature of creating comics! One thing that stood out more to me more on the pencil page was the ornate owl hilt on the sword in the 2nd panel.

I really loved Court of Owls. It was the first Batman story since Miller's Dark Knight Returns that I had a similar enthusiasm for. Just a great story with amazing artwork.  Greg Capullo's work on this series is perfection. Congrats on adding a second page - can't wait for mine to arrive! ;)

The announcement of Capullo drawing Batman is what brought me back to comics. I didn't need to know more than that, thankfully though the story was amazing as well! Congrats on your Court of Owls page! I look forward to seeing it!

Thanks so much! I'm definitely at the "take less swings, but make them all count" stage of collecting!

Awesome page with the iconic image of the Batman and the all seeing eyes of the owl motif.  It deepens the mystery of the well planned and carried out core story of modern Bat mythology.

I love that aspect of the page too, the owl eye inset panel showing the buildings that Batman was searching in. Great way to highlight just how long the Court had been using their Talons to shape Gotham's history.

That top image is one of my favorites so I was definitely pumped to be able to get my hands on this page. Absolutely loved the story, and it will age like a fine wine! Instant classic!

Thanks so much! It's definitely a story I revist often, even if it's just to randomly pick up the graphic novel to flip through to appreciate some of the art. You can tell Greg was finding his way with the characters a bit earlier on, which from a process point of view I enjoy looking at the evolution/refinement of his work as the run progressed.

I think over time pages from this early Capullo run will become even more coveted. What a page, terrific example!!

This team and this book got me back into reading comics on a regular basis and had me visiting my LCS monthly - after being away for over 20 years.

Still dont have an example from this run and thrilled you started collecting with your sights set so high!

Great page layout and design from an amazing story and amazing run
