Description
Cover dated May 1996. I bought this page on eBay a few years ago when I wanted an example of the art of Steve Skroce, an artist whose work I had enjoyed back in the 1990s. Bud LaRosa and Rob Hunter are both credited on inks for this issue. I’ve listed LaRosa as the inker for this piece because the back of the page is stamped with his name.

Continuing last week’s theme of questionable relationships in the X-Men universe, we have here a page featuring a then-recently resurrected Madelyne Pryor, also known as the Goblin Queen. She was brought back to life by Nate Grey (the titular X-Man), but at this point they are separated as Madelyne had come under the sway of Selene, the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club.

Earlier in the issue, Nate was fantasizing about Madelyne, and the two do have a romantic entanglement. What’s odd about that? Madelyne is a clone of Nate’s mother from a parallel universe to his own. So, Madelyne is for-all-intents-and-purposes a genetic copy of his mother. WTF, Marvel? That’s screwed up.

Whenever I look at this page, the first thing I see is the panel layout creating something akin to the Green Lantern symbol.

I would say that Nate Grey and Albert Pierce should start a support group, but that would be cruel to Nate to make him spend time with Albert.

Marvel loved their questionable relationships back in the day. Lol. Fun page with a cool layout.

Never let an obvious Green Lantern power ring symbol get in the way of some great, incestuous X-Men fun!

X-Man's mom has got it goin' on
X-Man's mom has got it goin' on
X-Man's mom has got it goin' on
Goblin Queen has got it goin' on

X-Man, we know Scott Summers is a tool.
(After school)
Bud can hang around X gene pool
(Hang by the pool)
Did your mom get cloned from time travel trip?
(Dimension trip)
Is she there and Goblin Queen will take off her slip?
(Give me the slip)

You know, I'm not the little boy when I used to read
I'm all grown up now
Pryor, can't you see?

X-Man's mom Skroce got it goin' on
She's all I want
And I've waited for so long
X-Man, cloned you see?
You're just not Back to Futurey
I know it's Game of Thrones but
You're in love with your own mom

I enjoyed that series for its freshness at the time and Skroce's art has always been great, even this early on.

Fun page (plus I bet she's NAKED under that towel!).

Wow, great page!  Love that big circular panel in the middle.  Almost like someone is looking through one side of a pair of binoculars.  Creepy, yeah maybe, but not as creepy as lusting after a clone of your mom.  Funny you should call Nate Grey a 'titular character,' cuz if that towel falls, well, ** ' ***  *** *****  * ***  *******  ********  (edited for content)

Nice grab. I did enjoy the supporting cast of X-Man. Little did I know how twisted this storyline was reading it as a kid.

This page takes me back!  The 90's had some great X-Men stories, and some questionable moments as well.  Great pickup!

Fantastic page! Love the layout--although I didn't notice the Green Lantern similarity until you pointed it out. Still, it's a nice layout and the center panel is the money shot.
