DescriptionSplash page for a backup story, featuring the "origin" of Kaintuck. Fred Ray's tenure on Tomahawk has to be one of the longest for an artist who didn't create the series -- according to Wikipedia he drew it from '47 to '68, making this example one of his last. By '68 Ray's style looked a little old-fashioned (especially compared to the amazing covers Neal Adams was doing for Tomahawk at the time), but he could get the job done. It might be lacking in new fangled style, but Ray tells the historical tale with a lot of things happening on the page of this revolutionary war time battle. Looks like Ray strove for accuracy in the wardrobe department and played with his 204 pc set of soldiers for $1.98.
