Jim Davis - Garfield Daily 01/15/1979 - Lyman, is that you?

I had initially set out in 2021 to purchase one Garfield comic strip original art completely done by Jim Davis, but got caught up in the bidding excitement and accidentally won a 1980 strip instead. No problem, I still ended up with a strip I found funny. I tried my hand again this year and was able to land the only piece I had eyes on for that auction! Would have loved to snag a Sunday instead but figured weekday would be more in my budget.

I know many roll their eyes at the Garfield comic strip, but it was a huge deal to kid me. While older pieces do command higher premiums than later art, most Garfield collectors seem to be going for first appearances, holidays, character appearances, etc. as opposed to whether it's pure Jim Davis or not. And that's what I love about collecting what you love, there's no wrong way :)

Also, if you squint your eyes, that mailman kind of looks like Lyman :)
