Description
I had the chance to upgrade from a 9x12 bust drawing to an 11x17 full figure piece so I had to jump on it! Mazzucchelli is a hero of mine so I’m always excited to pick up a piece of his art. These sketches were done for a rare public appearance at NYCC in 2007 around the time he was working on Asterios Polyp and I feel like you can see that style seep into this piece in the proportions and the way he handles Selina’s face. I was able to re-home my bust drawing to a fantastic CAF member and my wife likes this piece so much she said I could hang it in the living room instead of my office so everyone wins 😄

Beautiful piece! I thought of doing the same, with my Catwoman bust sketch 😂 Glad this 11x17 will be enjoyed daily in your home

It is easier to hang a sweet drawing by a Master artist, of cuddly cats and a crazy cat lady, in your living room, than a superhero bash up.

Although I much prefer his classic style, insofar as this style is concerned, this may very well be the nicest piece I've ever seen from him. Just beautiful. Congrats, Chris, it's a great upgrade!

Thank you so much Rubén! I've found that often my favorite artists are the ones who grow and change their style during the course of their careers and I don't think anyone exemplifies that as much as Mazzucchelli.

Oh, I agree with you, Chris. I like to see artists evolve. My favourite example is Dan Panosian. He started off in the early to mid 90's as one of many "not that great" inkers and over time kept grinding away at it and has since become a fabulous all around illustrator. Believe me, I'm aware that this new style is very well done, it's just a matter of stylistic taste for me, as I've alway preferred a more realistic style of illustration as opposed to cartoony, animation based styles.
