DescriptionBeen a big fan of Dino Battaglia for probably the last 20 years. When I saw some of his originals from his late period with the soft gray tones at the Lake Como fest I knew I was going home with one. It is so delicate in person, the reproductions do not do his work justice. Tried to add some details so show the subtle tonal shifts. Enjoy.Social/Sharing |

The tonal effect works to add atmosphere and poses a stark contrast to the white left on the page. It forces more concentration on what is there.

He was real master of shape design right up there with Toppi

One of the true unsung masters of the medium, at least in North America. Great looking page with some really interesting panels.

You should look him up, some great Edgar allen poe adaptations and his Inspector Coke series. Shame none are in english, but he is an amazing draftsman.

Wonderful page! Are the grey tones graphite? So frustrating that none of his work is available in English, I really hope someone like Fantagraphics will fix that soon. I've been living off of google image searches for years maybe it's time to just go ahead and buy some of the foreign language editions. Congrats on a killer addition to your collection!

The gray tones are ink applied with a cottonball. There is a photo of his stencils and test sheets in an art monograph. I'll send you a link to a few of my favorite books by him I have.
