I've been a fan of Paul Gulacy's artwork for almost 30 years! So whenever I'm lucky enough to acquire a new piece by him, it's a little bit like Christmas for me.
This fine example comes courtesy of Mr. Roger Clark. A fellow hobbyist, CAF member, and all around swell guy! Roger has a gallery here on the CAF, as well as his own website (rogerclarkart.com). Both are filled with great artwork that you can either buy or just look at, so be sure to check them out.
The piece itself is a stunning 3-character montage, with the centerpiece being a wonderfully rendered Iron Man that would make Kirby, Colan, Tuska, Layton, or Romita Jr. proud. The extra treat here is that I don't think I've ever seen Paul draw Iron Man before. Of course this is not to say that he has NEVER done so, I've just never seen one!
As for the secondary characters of Peregrine (top) and Comet Man (bottom), while there are those who might easily dismiss them, for me they actually display more elements of Paul's signature style. The folds and wrinkles of the costume, the definition and muscle tone, and of course Comet Man's face is classic Gulacy!
