Ninja High School #150 Sketch Cover Tomorrow Girl

Back when NHS was approaching its 150th issue it was announced a limited number of sketch covers were going to be created for it, but with no explanation of how they would be made available. No shame in my game, I subscribed to NHS, hoping Antarctic Press would send them out to subscribers, but no luck.

Eventually the issues were put up for sale online, and I ordered one. The fellow handling the sales gave me the choice of one of two issues already sketched, or I could wait for Ben to stop by the Antarctic Press office and sketch who I wanted. Since one of the existing sketches was of my favorite redhead comic character, it was a no-brainer.

Some time later AP had a 50% off sale one weekend, and that included the sketch covers. I created an order for six copies, and was just about to hit “confirm” for my order, when my then-girlfriend called. A lengthy period of listening to her drama later, I went back to complete the order, only to find that the sale had ended six hours early for reasons unknown. Given how that relationship ended, I made a poor choice in taking that call on a number of levels.

At any rate, some time later I decided to order some more sketch covers before AP sold out. Sadly, this time I was sent two pre-sketched covers, rather than asking me to choose…Or maybe Ben heard they were for me, and said “No way! Do you know how many redheads he’s commissioned from me over the years? He’s getting a blond and a black-haired girl this time.” Which is fair, as I’ve induced redhead fatigue in several artists over the years.
