Description

Felix the Cat is iconic, and is my wife’s favorite animated character. I got this for her birthday (it’s not for me, really!). Classic Sunday strip by its long time creator and artist, Otto Messmer. Although Pat Sullivan took the credit, it is well documented that Messmer did all of these 30s Sundays. Messmer was inspired by Winsor McCay’s animated work, and Felix was the first cartoon character created for the screen (as well as the first to be licensed and mass merchandised). This is my first posting of the year - it’s a long time coming, but let’s just say in a couple of weeks I will have two kids in college at the same time. . .

Fantastic Felix Sunday! You can really tell the difference when someone comes from an animation background and with Felix it was always the energy and action that captured my interest. This is a surreal example.

Looks like animation storyboard storytelling with how Messmer gets the flow and rhythm that keeps Felix fun to follow! Punctuates every storybeat with a lovely and relatable image of Felix.
