Praising Rafael Albuquerque's work is easy. The page showcases technical skill and a smooth flow. Both the writer and the artist excelled in creating a moment that truly feels like having the rug pulled out from under you.

American Vampire is a seriously underrated book that is really ambitious with its characters and plot that spans different eras of American history. It's funny how you slowly begin to realise that the status/class of the vampires you meet along the way suits them so well in each period. Which IMHO is how it manages to be both fantastical and close to the bone at the same time.
