For me Vertigo was an undiscovered country in 1993. I had moved to live in Germany back then and only caught up with comics from time to time when visiting the UK during holidays. I still managed to build a few runs over the years, and grew to appreciate the back issues and TPBs even more when I finally moved back to settle in the UK. Just as the grittier Batman stories and 2000AD before had beckoned me away from the safety net of all ages comics, Vertigo did the same and was largely responsible for my love of horror and fantasy.
