Description

Bob Layton revisits the era and the character that he is most fondly associated with. This exceptional (2014) recreation of the Barry Windsor-Smith cover art from Iron Man #232 has been "Layton-ized" to create a different mood and tone, including turning Tony Stark to face the camera.

About this piece, Layton says, "I always prided myself on being the cover artist on every issue of Iron Man that I did the interiors on. I took a back seat on this particular issue to make way for the incredible Barry Windsor-Smith. But, here's my version of that classic cover, done in the organic inking style that Barry taught me."

Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Potostat logo and corner box affixed to board. Signed and dated by Layton in the lower left image area.

Layton just did a perfect re-creation here. It evokes all of the subtlety and beauty of BWS's art. Just outstanding, my friend.
