DescriptionCover dated September 2011. Another Namor page in honor of the character’s recent MCU debut. This comic book was an inventory story put together during Erik Larsen’s Defenders series from the early 2000s, but remained unpublished for almost a decade after its creation. Both the comic book story and the tale of its creation are a bit off the beaten track, but weren’t all of the best Defenders stories a bit odd? Bagley and Hennessy made a dynamite team here. While I never thought that capes were practical in an undersea society, the artists made me forget that concern with their depiction of Lady Dorma. Social/Sharing |

The blacks are masterfully balanced and the page perfectly flows (as in fact it's supposed to do 😁). Lady Dorma is just lovely!

Fantastic Bagley, Michael. He's able to fit so much on this page, both in terms of narrative and beautiful illustration. His sweeping, fluid style perfectly suits an underwater scene or story (as Dorma's flowing cape attests to here :) ), and Bagley's unerring sense of storytelling flows just as easily, too, moving things along smoothly as we head to the lovely Dorma splashy image. Another great add to your gallery, Michael! Congrats!

I'm gonna be a little lazy and piggyback off of Jason's great comment. Especially the bit about Bagley's sweeping, fluid style being perfect for an underwater scene. And wow, that last panel! So happy to see they finally published this story. Congrats on a fantastic add!

This is a spectacular page and I really love the slick look the inks give it, all the better to help the characters glide through the water as effortlessly as possible! I originally sold this page for Hennessy but chose to go the auction route with it. Is that how you acquired it, Michael? It's super nice!

I did get it at auction - via Comic Connect back in (I believe) April 2021. Hennessy has to be at the top of the list of inkers over Bagley's pencils.

Oh, okay, then you didn't get it indirectly from me. I remember auctioning it through ComicLink and it goes back to at least 2017 and maybe 2015 or 2016. So you must've gotten it consigned by the guy who won it when I consigned it. Either way, great to see it end up with you and yes, Hennessy is not only at the top (with John Dell) of inkers for Bagley, but Bagley actually used to prefer and request Hennessy be his inker.

Let's get up to surface
To defeat humans
Draw me Lady Dorma
Fits in Larsen’s run
Bring the picnic lunch I never eat
But you can bet Bagley’s not through
Namor, He’ll be the man that will rule
Brought out from the closet
But on fire within
Once you’re underwater
Namor sure to win
You’ve got finessed hailed artistic art
When you have inks by Andrew
Somehow no Aquaman posts from you

I think Namor is now officially a Disney Prince (assuming that's a thing like the Disney princesses). Another lyrical great from the composer laureate of CAF!

If not for the bubbles, it looks like they are actually flying. Super fluid page, especially the first and last panels.

Awesome Defenders page by Bagley and Hennessy! Love the movement in the panels and that bottom splash is gorgeous! Great inks as well! Wonderful pick-up!
