I loved BWS's contribution to the FF's 25th anniverasry issue. He brought out such a dark, brooding Thing. Classic!

Great BWS Thing.  Love the rain and the linework.  Awesome John Workman lettering too!

Wow! Saw is and immediately had to look in my FF box for this issue. Amazing title page! BWS on Ben Grimm is a great match.

It has echoes of Kirby and especially "This Man... This Monster!" but BWS put his inimitable mark on the character and his swings to melancholy.

Agreed! It's a masterpiece of inking and I'm happy to have owned this for over 25 years. There's a higher quality scan in my "Original Art Restored and Digitally Colored" folder. I restored it from a 1200 dpi scan and colored it based on the original 1980s Marvel palette and a printed copy of the book.  If you love "This Man...This Monster!" as much as I do, you'll find my inked version in my "Classic Comic Art Recreations" folder. Inked by hand with a Hunt 102 nib, Rapidograph pens, and thousands of tiny dots.

Thanks, there's a better scan and the linework digitally restored and colored here:

I bought this piece in the late-1990s from a well-known collector who had just purchased all the BWS pages from FF 296 and said something like, "I don't need a big picture of the Thing in a raincoat!"  I thought, "are you kidding me? This is a masterpiece of inking" and I happy snapped it up.

Haha, that's mind blowing! His loss, your gain! Fantastic title splash.
