Description
Nice Grummett cover with original title dressing on an overlay and a second overlay of just the Robin. image The large Robin in the background was pasted up from a second art board. They made a second overlay of that image to tint back (ghost) the image of Robin as seen on the final cover. So I'm guessing that the Robin artwork had to be sent off to production first as they finalized the rest of the cover and then combined them.
I know a lot of collectors are turned off when there are layers of paste-up and other imperfections, but as a fan of the process of producing comic art, it fascinates me. I have a production art background myself (unfortunately not in comics) and I am able to examine the components and piece together what the approximate process was. This cover has a lot to analyze.

Synopsis from DC Database: Tim Drake falls afoul of a couple of bullies and, so as not to give away his secret identity as Robin, must allow himself to be beaten up in front of Ariana. Beating criminals as Robin doesn't make things any better, but before long he re-encounters them alone and pays them back in kind. He then makes his way to see Ariana, but finds her in tears - her uncle is being threatened by the Russian mob.

I think a common adolescent fantasy is to get the chance at revenge on the "Bullies" of the world. Here we got to experience that through Tim Drake.

Classic storyline tie-in, in the aftermath of Knightsend where every Bat character dealt with their new roles and responsibilities when Dick Grayson took over the role of Batman.  Grummett and Kryssing did a great job on this cover with the alley beatdown!

What I've always liked most about this cover is that it's a twis on the classic "villain looming overhead" cover layout, with the main hero looming above the action instead of the villain. Hooray for Grummett!

Had not thought about that. Thanks for pointing it out Ruben

Yes. The image of Robin is a paste-up but is also an original drawing. I mention my thoughts about why it was pasted up in the description. Probably a time restraint/process thing

Great cover! Grummett hitting on all cylinders. It's not often you get both Robin and Tim Drake on the cover. Congrats!
