Often in these Saint strips things just seem to happen to Simon Templar as he drives around. In this one he happens to witness a man being thrown off a cliff whilst he's driving on a mountain road. Even if the text did not later tell us that the man is a 'professor' it is clear from the visual cliches used. These include: 1) Bald with hair sticking out the sides 2) Bow tie 3) Chequered trousers 4) White lab coat.
