Description

Dan Smith rocks, and this massive piece is classic Smith. Titled “Aspasia” it was part of a “famous women” series published in 1927. Incredible brush work, beautiful lines, great composition, and an all around “it” factor that all pen and ink lovers crave. Great stuff! 27 1/2” x 21 1/2” on heavy board. Thanks to Steve Staszower for letting it go!

Smith does these great illustrations knowing how important they would be to introducing a broad audience to history, culture, and the art itself as the paper was the vehichle to reach the masses. Pieces like this are so ornately done and have such beautiful flourish, that they placed Smith amongst the great illustrators of the Golden Age.
