Whoa
(Gah, Miller)
Darling, you got to ask Michael
Should I bid on Nord’s Devil?
On display dynamic style
Win by hair at the end of time
So you got the Karl Kesel
Action page of Daredevil
They always please, please, please
You're happy when the shipping’s free
One day he’s blind just like a bat
So if you want inks by the Matt
Well, come Don and Remmy knows
Karen Page sold you for dope
Should I pay for Daredevil now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I bid there will be trouble
But then someday, price will be triple
So come on and let me know
I'll now hear that famous guitar riff whenever I read this page, which is good by me.
Wow! Nord nailed this!!
No words needed. Pure adrenaline!
I'm mostly familiar with Nord's work on Conan, among other titles, but he shows a real flair for DD. I like the sense of dynamism he creates on this page with the downward slanted panel borders and grid of ceiling tiles.
Fantastic run of Daredevil! Glad this page found its way home to Michael's Hell's Kitchen!
I never read this run, but I remember it as being early work by the fellow Canadian. It's a great page. Happy to know you snagged this page after wanting one for a while, congrats!
Thanks! I think a lot of comic book readers haven't read this run, as I rarely hear it talked about. Nord's style during this time stood out to me because it differed from the many Image clones that still permeated superhero comics at the time. Maybe that was both a blessing and a curse, since it didn't seem to catch on despite the very solid storytelling, particularly in the quieter moments among Matt and the supporting cast.
Beautiful Daredevil page!
I too loved that run, however short it was. It was so fresh at the time for the character indeed.
It's always great to grab pages from books one loved so much. Congrats on this beautiful addition!
Congrats on getting a great page that totally fit the bill for you and your favorite Daredevil story/artistic period. That's always a wonderful thing.
The way you describe Nord's is the way I think of Rivera and Samnee's work...putting some old school swashbuckling comic fun and lightness after years of grim 'n' gritty! I can see what you're saying just with this page! Congrats!
DD lookin' sharp in full extension, let's go!!
I'm afraid I fall in the camp of those never having read this run, and so not talking about it through that failing on my part! Thanks for pointing me towards it - I'll check it out! (...which I'm really looking forward to, if this page is any indication! Great action, and I really like the use of blacks here...). Very cool pick up here, Michael - congrats on scoring a page from your favorite DD run: a solid win!
Thanks! The Kesel/Nord run is definitely worth checking out, but very different from what fans had been used to and from what would follow it. The run started with issue 353 and lasted around a year. I remember there being some buzz around it at the time, but that buzz didn't seem to translate into sales (although in fairness to them, sales were pretty bad for comics overall in 1996-97 with comic book stores closing left and right).
I always have bee a DD fan and this page is great and from a memorable run, huge congrats!
